Chicago native, Amanda’s melodic voice can be described as angelic, transforming and youthful. She began her professional career as a broker but the market crashed just as her downtown office opened.  To be honest, she never wanted to be in finance, she wanted to sing! After 10 years of entrepreneurship in the production and financial world, she dedicated her journey to being true to her natural calling.

Growing up in Chicago, she was always active in her local church’s singing ministry, often times the vocal lead and coach.  Since the age of 2, she has participated in Easter programs and young adult choirs and has been studying  and performing  jazz, opera, classical, spirituals and gospel ever since.

“I never considered singing a viable “business” since it was “only” my passion", says Amanda.  “I believed you had to work hard at something you didn’t like, then if you’re lucky, retire and do the things you’ve been wanting to do all along (laugh). It wasn’t until I was in the studio laying background vocals with a producer and he asked me to write a couple of songs for him. That was my ‘Aha’ moment; I knew then that it was time to live my passion.”

Since that time, Amanda has sang background for several artists, including R&B and Broadway sensation Heather Headley, rising gospel artist Jonathan McReynolds and Multi-GMA Dove Award winner Natalie Grant.

In hindsight, it’s no surprise Amanda has found herself in music. “My father- singer and songwriter Danny Hunt, and his side of the family is very musical.  I have several Aunts and Uncles who both sing and play instruments and my Great Grandfather Marion Kay was one of the first African-American Tenors to perform with The Civic Opera… music is in my blood.”

Some of Amanda’s vocal and musical influences are Whitney Houston, Ce Ce Winans, Lauryn Hill, John Mayer, The Beatles, Sting, Stevie Wonder, Eta James, Nat King Cole, Michael Jackson, James Taylor, and David Foster.  “Their music is rich, timeless, full of details and has often had a beneficial purpose to it.”

Lisa Bishop, a 10-year Carnegie Coach and super fan says, “Amanda has the ‘WOW’ factor.”   Jet Magazine agrees- in Fall of 2008 she was selected as the “Woman  Making a Powerful Difference through Song” contest winner and was featured in their February 2nd, 2009 edition.  In January 2009, Amanda Hunt was asked to appear on WGN’s Midday segment where she was interviewed and praised for showcasing graceful, vocal skills and a charming personality.  Since then she has appeared in Essence, NBC Chicago, Suntimes, Time Out Magazine, Rolling Out Magazine and more.

Additional milestones include graduating Magna Cum Laude in Human/Legal Communication from Howard University, engaging as a radio personality with, vocal coaching and marrying the love of her life- Ashanti Pettaway, in July of 2009.

Despite a full life Amanda admits, “I’m happiest when I’m singing”, and although her entire life has involved her shining in various genres, she concludes, “I am very grateful for my Christian roots.”
